Saving the world, one cat at a time! June 8, 2010

Filed under: Giving Back By Volunteering — Jill McKechnie Hartley @ 12:37 pm

My teen aged daughter is caught between a conservative father and a liberal mother who insists that she make “giving back” a part of her life.  I wish I could offer a better reason about why I think it’s important to volunteer, but I stick with the tried and true response– ”… because it’s the right thing to do…”.   That’s honestly how I feel.

So for the past year we’ve worked every Friday night as volunteers for www.purrfectpals.org — the world’s largest cat-only adoption organization and sanctuary.  Our jobs are not so glamorous, but our efforts support a great cause…  We roll up our sleeves to clean cages, socialize and adopt out abandoned cats and kittens on behalf of this wonderful organization.

It’s sad to see how many cats are abandoned because of the economy, a death in the family or the owner just got tired of being a pet owner.  Fortunately, this “no-kill” shelter finds forever homes for these animals.  It’s a great way to end our week–knowing that we’ve helped save the world, one cat at a time!
